Germany developed a new smart pressure floor A few days ago, the team at Plata Institute in Potsdam, Germany, created an 8 square meter high-resolution smart pressure-sensitive floor. This floor can accurately track the pose, movement and collision of any object including the person above the floor and generate a mirror projection of the things above. This technology can be widely used in home security and automation, as well as interactive games and other fields.

For specific applications, the team said that pressure-sensitive flooring can be applied to home security, automation, and gaming. For example, when the old man falls, the floor can alarm automatically; after the person who is sitting on the floor is detected by gravity, he can automatically switch his favorite TV channel for this person.

The R&D team stated that, unlike the traditional method of detecting movement of objects on a board through a camera, the team used a method of underground pressure sensing system detection. The system lurking under the floor first senses the position of the object through the "footprint" left on the floor by means of a high-resolution, pressure-sensitive floor. Afterwards, inverse kinematics is used to infer more information about the posture, movement, and collision of the object.
