EMAG's VLC 800 inverted turning center for the production of discs up to 800 mm in size, thanks to the integrated automation system design, is a production system that combines all the advantages of a single machine.
Customizable machine tools, as indicated by the name "C", the VLC 800 inverted turning center can be configured for a wide range of applications. With a variety of modules to choose from and time-tested, EMAG's modular design means that VLC's processing range allows it to be used in a variety of machining tasks. For example, the machine can be equipped with two turrets with powered tools, as an option, to move on the auxiliary X-axis. In addition, drilling and milling spindles with a tool magazine can be mounted on the YB axis unit. Due to the high strength and high precision of the machine, it can also be used in grinding and hard machining. For the machining of large workpieces, VLC 800 can be used almost exclusively in all machining types.
Large workpiece, excellent quality
With a drive power of up to 74 kW and a torque of 4400 Nm, a powerful spindle with a speed of up to 500 rpm guarantees a fast machining process. The Mineralit ® Advanced Minerals machine base is made using a cold casting process with exceptionally good vibration damping, which in turn reduces tool wear and ensures excellent surface quality. The spindle motor, spindle, turret, electrical cabinet and machine bed are all hydraulically cooled. The dual-circuit cooling unit regulates the ambient temperature of the machine temperature within tolerances. Therefore, the VLC turning center even produces large parts with a machining accuracy of one hundredth of a millimeter. For the best quality control, the selected probe can be mounted outside the processing area to verify the dimensions. Not only protects the probe from chip damage, but also measures before the loading and unloading process, saving time.
Configuration automation
Of course, the VLC 800 also has a typical EMAG pick-up system that includes the attached component storage and pick-up spindle. Manual or other automated components are used to place the material on the integrated conveyor belt to transport the workpiece to the machine. The spindle picks up the workpiece from the conveyor belt and guides it to various stations in the processing area. The round-trip distance from the conveyor belt to the processing area is shorter, reducing chip-to-chip time and ensuring superior efficiency. The integrated automation system also simplifies the structure of the production line because complex automation systems are no longer required for machine loading. All that is required is a workpiece transport system between the conveyor belts, using simple automation components such as auxiliary conveyors, pick-and-place devices and switching devices. The use of as few components as possible also reduces the number of possible sources of failure.

Of course, the inverted design ensures excellent accessibility between all relevant processing areas, thanks to the easy access of the processing area, ensuring extremely short machining times and a perfect ergonomic design. The layout of all service units is also extremely convenient, making it easy and quick to perform machine maintenance.

Extensive process integration: Thanks to the optional additional shaft and auxiliary spindle unit, EMAG has created a powerful machining center that can be used on a single machine with large machining processes such as turning, drilling, milling, grinding and deburring. The workpiece is processed in a complete set.

The work spindle carrying the workpiece is on the main axis X and Z axes, and the Y axis can also be selected to move laterally. In the swing mode, the tool holders can be used in series or in parallel. For this purpose, the auxiliary X axis can be selected.
