A British study showed that more vitamin B3 intake during pregnancy helps reduce the risk of eczema after birth. Researchers at the University of Southampton analyzed vitae B3 levels in 497 women during pregnancy and the proportion of eczema after their birth. They found that women with high levels of vitamin B3 during pregnancy had a 30% lower risk of developing eczema within 1 year of birth. The researchers said that their findings prove that some of the infant's eczema has occurred during the foetal period. Vitamin B3 can improve the overall structure, humidity, and elasticity of the skin. Vitamin B3 supplemented cream has been used to treat eczema. This study established for the first time the association between vitamin B3 levels during pregnancy and infant eczema. Lead person Keith Godfrey said: "This interesting connection requires more research, but this discovery further demonstrates the potential benefits of balanced nutrition during pregnancy."
