Prior to 2005, a major design institute had been using the German ObjectD and Autodesk's AutoCAD 2D design software for product design. However, as the complexity of engineering projects increases, the inadequacy of two-dimensional software functions is increasingly apparent. To this end, the company hopes to effectively simulate the design and installation of products through advanced computer-aided design technology to achieve the goal of reducing costs and improving product quality. For this reason, in 2005, the design platform was upgraded from 2D software to 3D software, and software selection was started.

At present, a major design institute mainly uses Inventor software for all design processes from solution design and technical design to construction design.

After nearly two years of use of Inventor, we have summarized the following experience.

1 Inventor and AutoCAD's relatives

Since both Inven tor and AutoCAD are developed by Autodesk, the operation interface and data interface of the two have a certain continuity, which makes it easier for AutoCAD drawing people to learn and operate Inventor, making Inventor a two-dimensional design platform from AutoCAD. The best choice for smooth migration to 3D design platforms.

2 powerful features

Inventor's outstanding 3D modeling capabilities, as well as engineering calculations, kinematics/dynamics simulation analysis based on this, are the driving force and foundation for the transformation of mechanical engineering from drawing to design. It is difficult to fully express the product information of a three-dimensional part in a two-dimensional environment. Engineers may spend a lot of time drawing a 2D drawing and expressing the relevant features of the part through various views. However, after the drawings were drawn, various complicated lines caused trouble for the readers. The migration from AutoCAD to Inventor has solved many of the headaches of previous design work, unraveling many of the "dead knots" in the design, and has gradually deepened our understanding of some of Inventor's features. In the two-dimensional environment, the position of the whole product in space is not clear, and there are many interference phenomena between the parts. It is unrealistic to perform interference check through the two-dimensional view, and it is difficult to avoid the existence of interference in the product equipment. But in Inventor's three-dimensional environment, you can see your design results very intuitively. Interference and collision detection can be performed in real time, and problems can be changed in time to avoid some minor mistakes that are often easy to occur. Combining 2D and 3D capabilities, Inventor not only provides the 2D tools we have been relying on, but also allows us to transform our progress into 3D design without risk, without disrupting the business, and bringing designers from the heavy The liberation of two-dimensional drawing will put more energy into the improvement and innovation of product structure.

3 powerful adaptive technology

Taking adaptive technology as the core, maintaining the model's self-adaptation and creating adaptive parts is one of the functions that Inventor distinguishes from other 3D modeling software. These smart parts maintain a physical relationship, and if you modify the geometry of the base part, the adaptive geometry is updated. Just like designing an axis with a base hole, when changing the size of the reference hole, the axis associated with it is automatically resized to accommodate the new diameter of the hole.

4 Excellent project management

when in 2D, drawing project management in the form of a folder, sometimes in order to find a drawing file will take a long time for manual retrieval. Through the project management function provided by Inventor, the file structure of the entire project is determined, so that all parts, drawings and standard parts of the whole project are managed in an orderly manner by software. This technology is an important means to improve work efficiency.

5 Excellent large assembly performance

we can complete the establishment of large machinery model, check the design in three-dimensional environment prior to manufacturing the prototype - which has tremendous value for conversion to mechanical engineers interested in three-dimensional design It makes it easier for Inventor to handle large assemblies than other systems.
